Very often, in the interior design projects with which the studio engages, whether in retail or hospitality, the need arises to place particular, specific lighting points that can harmonize perfectly with the system of colors, fabrics, and finishes that have been decided in the overall project: if you cannot find among the proposals on the market an item that blends perfectly with the moodboard chosen for a specific project. It is then a case of resorting to a custom realization.
The lamps for the common space of a hotel in Florence, Italy, were made by hand by one of the last artisans still working brass, and other metals such as copper, aluminum, and bronze, with a lathe. Simple cylinders that, thanks to the length of the black silk cables, take on importance and flexibility of use.
In another project from many years ago, the furnishing of a bar in one of the central points of the Florentine movida Piazza S. Spirito, despite the really tight budget, we had custom lamps made of sheet turned aluminum: a counterpoint with a simple, post-industrial style, made on the mechanical lathe and finished by hand by one of the last sheet turners working in Florence.
Instead, for the flagship store of the Mondial Barber brand, built in the heart of Florence’s historic center near Ponte Vecchio, we relied on an artisan who works exclusively in brass, both in the creation of the handles (all custom-made in satin-finished and painted brass) and for the wall lamps, where the lighting dedicated to the institutional communication of the company’s history finds its place in defining the entrance environment to the Barberia, directly from Borgo San Jacopo in Florence.

In the sophisticated and spacious rooms of the wellness center and bistro in Rapolano Terme in the province of Siena, we instead resorted to fabric lamp holders and a metal structure, so as to create large but softly lit objects with a sure effect. Each element was carefully designed to create a perfect match of color and style, to harmonize with the furnishings in that particular room.
