In today’s interior design projects, vintage terrazzo flooring is experiencing a renaissance in a contemporary context, becoming a standout feature in modern spaces. These terrazzo tiles, which evoke a sense of authenticity and heritage, are making a strong comeback in the design world.
Originally part of the Italian artisanal tradition, terrazzo tiles are composed of marble, glass, and ceramic fragments, a combination that gives each surface its unique and refined look.

Thanks to their versatility, terrazzo floors are ideal for various interior environments — from residential homes to retail and hospitality settings. Their comeback is not just aesthetic, but also cultural, bringing traditional materials back into the spotlight through a contemporary lens. A prime example is ZPSTUDIO’s design for the relaxation and reception area of the Terme San Giovanni complex in Rapolano Terme Terme San Giovanni a Rapolano Terme. Here, Grandinetti Grandinetti terrazzo tiles are paired with carefully selected vintage furniture, creating a space that is both sophisticated and welcoming.

Another application can be seen in ZPSTUDIO’s interior design for the Masaccio apartment in Florence. In this project, MIPA terrazzo tiles were used in the kitchen flooring, seamlessly integrated with the restored parquet. The Alceste and Zemira collections blend beautifully with a sage-green Effeti kitchen, forming a stylish and functional rug-like surface.

The return of terrazzo in interior design highlights the value of craftsmanship and the timeless beauty of handmade flooring. In an era where sustainability and authenticity are priorities, terrazzo tiles represent an ideal solution for those seeking surfaces that are durable and aesthetically enduring. In Florence, a city rich in historic buildings, it’s common to encounter these precious floors. At ZPSTUDIO, we strive to preserve and enhance them. A perfect example is our Azeglio Suite project, where original historic tiles were also incorporated into newly renovated spaces to ensure visual continuity and authenticity.

Graniglia tiles are the perfect choice for those looking to blend tradition and innovation, bringing elegance and history into even the most contemporary projects. This material not only captivates with its aesthetics but also tells stories of craftsmanship, artistry, and timeless design.
