HOW TO STYLE A CORRIDOR

Not a mere passageway, nor relegated to a second-class role, the hallway can become the star of an interior design intervention.
Whether in residential interiors or hotel design, it is an environment not to be underestimated because it can in a sense be likened to a habitable room, to be used. Yes, but how? Firstly by making the most of light effects: whether natural or artificial, in a generally narrow and long space, light can literally amplify and multiply spatiality, as well as create striking effects.

In this hotel design intervention in Florence, for example, we accentuated the scenic and decorative effect of the light fixtures, positioned in sequence to create a sort of luminous walkway accessing the rooms. The ceiling lamps are Axolight’s Hoops, characterized by a “tangle” of brass-finished metal cables that create a very decorative shimmering refraction. To achieve the warmest possible light temperature, custom work was requested from the company, which made all the emissions at 2700k, necessary precisely to have a warm light tone (www.axolight.it).

The other key element: color (on the walls, floor) decorative interventions (paneling, mirrors and hanging frames to intersperse continuous wall surfaces) and the type of flooring. When it is necessary to choose a type of floor that can withstand wear and tear and high footfall, as in this example of a design hotel in Florence, a vinyl weave can be used (here we have chosen: a brown color from Ege carpets’ Rustic era collection (www.egecarpets.com), with the edges finished with a tone-on-tone parquet band. On the walls: one of our great classics, beloved beyond time and fashion: the Dove Tale shade by Farrow and Ball (www.farrow-ball.com).
